Instead of believing the promise that God made to them Sarai decided to take matters into her own hand and in Abrams case HELP GOD OUT!! there faith in God was not strong at the time...
After reading Gen 16 I am reminded of the words of a hymn ....

Am surprised how can a wife tells a husband, go out and bring a baby?? That's absolutly amaizing
hagar is amazing--unplanned pregnancy and marriage very obedient---first time a person calls God by name-- God who sees
